Remote workers in Vermont can have it all – they can keep their jobs, or find new ones anywhere in the world, and still enjoy the things that set life in Vermont apart, such as access to world-class outdoor recreation, a strong community, excellent education, and beautiful views.

Coworking spaces offer remote working infrastructure and a balance between working alone at home and full-time in-office work that puts a move to Vermont within reach for many.

Burlington, Vermont is ranked the 4th Best Cities for Remote Workers in 2021, according to Forbes, and more than 36 million Americans are predicted to work from home by 2025 – almost a quarter of the U.S. workforce. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated this shift away from office spaces, along with the state of Vermont’s New Remote Worker Grant, allocating a maximum of $7,500 to professionals who work primarily remotely and are relocating to Vermont. So far, 298 workers and their families have benefited from the program.

These factors are bringing people with diverse career backgrounds into Vermont to set up shop at home – or in one of Vermont’s many coworking spaces, which offer remote workers the structure, communal space and distinct working environment of an office while they enjoy the freedom and flexibility of remote work.

“Coworking spaces serve as a convening place and resource for those working remotely in Vermont who may otherwise have limited engagement with their local community,” said Nick Grimley, Director of Entrepreneurship and Tech Commercialization. “They help disaggregated workers feel a sense of community and build connections.

“As community assets, these spaces foster the sharing of valuable skills, talents and connections among members who draw from vast personal experiences and also serve as a sounding board for recommendations on fun spots to recreate, household service providers, or the best brew in town,” Grimley said.

In Vermont, coworking spaces can be found in every region of the state, inviting remote workers to make the most of the opportunity to grow their careers in the Green Mountains. Below are eight coworking spaces in Vermont to consider.
