The Clemmons Family Farm of Charlotte, Vermont, is a family-owned cultural center that brings African American heritage and culture to life. And thanks to an ArtPlace America National Placemaking Fund grant, this cultural center is growing. One of only 23 recipients among a field of almost 1,000 applicants, the Clemmons’ facility will use the award to expand its “Sense of Place” programming, which will bring African and African American artists and creatives from a variety of disciplines to the farm for future programming. Family-owned since the 1960s, the Clemmons Family Farm has made a name for itself through innovative programming and partnerships celebrating African American heritage. The farm is also one of 22 sites on Vermont’s African American Heritage Trail.
